Clausewitz founded the modern basis for the systematic study of war as a field of human knowledge.
Karl von Clausewitz (1780-1831) was a Prussian general and battlefield opponent of Napoleon. His book, originally titled Vom Kreige (On War), is the most famous and influential analysis of warfare and its principles ever written.
Edward M. Collins was a colonel in the United States Air Force. His translation and abridgement of Karl von Clausewitz's On War was published in 1962 as War, Politics, and Power and became the catalyst for the introduction of Clausewitzian philosophy into the curriculums of all the service war colleges.
