This book was created over years of discussion, classroom experiments, exercises, and interaction. This book is also the process and product of the interaction of two individuals working with ideas. Its creation is the antithesis of what we are critiquing. It is the result of dialogue and human relationship. The book addresses a very different relationship, a "relationship" to television ... a "televisionship," a one-dimensional imprinting relationship without dialogue or living human interaction. Bernard McGrane is a professor in the Sociology Department at Chapman University. He is the author of Beyond Anthropology, Society and the Other, The Un-TV and the 10 MPH Car. Exploriments in Personal Freedom and Everyday Life; This Book is Not-Required, An Emotional Survival Manual for Students, and he is also featured in two educational videos: The Ad and the Id: Sex, Death and Subliminal Advertising and The Ad and the Ego Advertising and Identity. John Gunderson teaches at Dana Hills High School and Chapman University. His work focuses on the belief education can transform lives through passionate teaching grounded in theory and philosophy. He actively publishes work on diverse topics including teaching and learning, school reform, college life, and the media.
