When Your Dog Is Old Enough to Drive

Here on these pages, Daisy, a seventeen-year-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever, writes her memoires. Throughout her long life, Daisy was a part of a family who loved dogs. She grew up, lived, played with, and helped bury five of her friends and two she has now left behind to care for her family. It is a story about the many joys and sorrows in life from swimming in a cool green lake, to walks in the meadows, to the taste of true fear of being in a wildfire. It chronicles her goal to become part of a family she loves and tells the story of her person, Aurora, and how they both change over time. Through her memoirs, one reads of the daily life of a dog among other dogs, marvelous and exciting pursuits of the pack and long lazy days in the sunshine as youth gently gives way to maturity. The story speaks of the nature of dogs, the human condition, of wilderness, games to be played, treats to be devoured, friendship and love, and finally about learning enough of the meaning of life to be ready to die.
