Where Pelicans Fly

Where Pelicans Fly is about a landscape abounding in living things--and the importance of being mindfully present to the extraordinary everyday. The images are of the forests, fields, wetlands and wildlife along the Missouri River in Central Missouri's Boone County. Through images and words, the author emphasizes that nature is not something that lies "out there, beyond the pale." It lies close to us, not only spatially but also in other ways. If we choose, we can become intimate with nature in our backyards and nearby parks, as well as in distant wildernesses. But wherever we find it, it has already found us. Our connections to nature are embedded in our evolutionary history and dwell within the fabric of our being. By developing an awareness of this, the author stresses, we can grow individually and societally toward a greater appreciation and understanding of nature's significance to our well being.
