White Fire

The driving-lights that searched November dusks singled out plume after plume of foliage tall and brave in the livery of fire, cold funeral piles for the Summer passed. In the skies that dreamed above the Wissahickon hills lagoons of topaz, jade and amethyst, forsaken by the sunset, cooled and drained into abysmal purple.
