Women Writers and the Artifacts of Celebrity in the Long Nineteenth Century

What does it mean to be both a woman writer and a celebrity? Bringing together scholars from the North America, Britain, and Australia, this collection examines the nature of women's celebrity. Contributors examine a range of artifacts, including prefaces, portraits, frontispieces, and printed memoirs by friends and family. This collection is distinctive in its attention to women's participation with and self-fashioning of their own celebrity, particularly through engagement with publishers and markets.
