The World in the 20th Century A Thematic

For undergraduate courses on 20th century world history, history of Europe and international relations. Presents a framework of key events in the 20th century that shaped the modern world. The World in the Twentieth Century is a brief, accessible text written for students who may have little background in history. It focuses on encouraging students to make connections by delivering four important themes: the effects of technology on world history, changing global identities, shifting borders and globalization. These themes and the book's structure develop a deeper understanding of a fast-paced century by placing strong emphasis on student engagement.

Stephanie A. Hallock is an associate professor of political science at Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland, where she chairs the college’s International Education Initiative. Her primary work has been in the area of global curriculum development and study abroad, consulting and presenting in Bulgaria and the United States. These experiences led to her current exploration of various pedagogical approaches to promote student engagement, both in the classroom and larger communities in which they live. In 2009, she received a NISOD Excellence Award for teaching and leadership. She received her B.A. from Roanoke College, an M.A. from Virginia Tech and a Ph.D. from the University of Miami (FL). She began her teaching career at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida.
