After her father's irate encounter with a salesclerk who also happens to be her not-yet-introduced and not-yet-announced fiance, Tzippi decides to leave Depression-era New Jersey to help settle the Jewish Homeland amidst the cultural shock of a secular kibbutz that serves as a dumping ground for refugees, runaways and family lunatics - and discovers real connections with other human beings for possibly the first time in her life.
