The Czech Legion 1914-20

The Czechoslovakian Republic was born in the flames of World War I, with some 100,000 volunteers, later collectively known as the Czech Legion, fighting for their national self-determination in the armies of France, Italy and Tsarist Russia. In 1918, following the collapse of the Tsar's army, they attempted to rebuild an Allied front on the Volga and in the Urals. Caught up in the Russian Civil War, they amazed the world by fighting their way along a 6,000-mile rail corridor across Siberia to the Pacific. This fascinating story is illustrated with very rare photographs, and colour plates detailing the uniforms and insignia of these Czechoslovak patriots. Book jacket.

DAVID BULLOCK holds a PhD in European Military History and has been an officer in the U.S. Air Force. Currently, he writes official histories as a military historian for the Department of Defense and is an adjunct Associate Professor at Colorado Technical University, Colorado Springs.
