Exploitation of Children and Youth in America

This book raises awareness about patterns of child and youth exploitation with a focus on exploitation in the United States. The authors highlight true stories of exploitation and abusive practices such as child labor law violations, forced marriage, and the troubled teen industry that were previously documented by human rights activists, journalists, academics, and legal minds.

This book provides a brief overview of the history of child labor and identifies a timeline of unified efforts to reform labor laws. It reviews recently introduced legislation and comprehensive policy recommendations and concludes with macro-recommendations for eliminating exploitative practices. There are tips on how to get involved and resources for parents and youth.

Christina Boozer, LISW-S, ACSW, MBA, is a licensed independent Social Worker with Supervisory Designation. She is a mental health therapist specializing in suicide prevention and healing trauma. Christina has served at the local and national levels on Quality Improvement and System Redesign initiatives and organized, developed, and presented on national continuing education calls. Christina is a certified Anti-Oppression Informed Practitioner in her region and earned a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace certificate from the University of South Florida's Muma College of Business. Having interacted with people from all walks of life, Christina has a passion for diverse cultures and religions, upholding Human Rights and Religious Freedom, and educating others about the benefits of building respectful, collaborative, diverse and harmonious relationships. As Director of Planning, Christina helps plan and organize all ICHRRF's internal and public events, including the Speaking Up series for activists and academics, symposia and conferences, and Human Rights hearings.

Deenise Tran, MBA, MT(ASCP) has a Medical Technology background and is serving her role as a Manager for Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Services. With her MBA, focus on Healthcare Administration, she has led her team to accomplish many projects using Lean and Six Sigma focus. As an immigrant from Vietnam, she understands the cultures of the country and able to provide different perspective during her involvement with the ICHRRF organization. As a mother, she represents humanity's voice for the children in the collaboration of writing this book.
