Mit Napoleon in Agypten

English summary: Jean-Baptiste Lepere (1761-1844), architect and archaeologist, accompanied Napoleon to Egypt and became the most important architectural draughtsman of the expedition. Excited by the highly-developed culture of this alien land, he passionately devoted his time to the world of the pharaohs. Lepere's sheets are today kept in the graphics collection of the Wallraf Museum, and they form the nucleus of this special exhibition. A treasure that has lain undiscovered for almost 200 years will be on show to the public for the first time. This presentation is complemented by a modern historical documentation, finds from Ancient Egypt, and exhibits from the times of Napoleon himself. The East and West meet in Cologne from October 2, 2009 to January 10, 2010. Begeistert von der Hochkultur des fremden Landes, widmet er sich mit aller Leidenschaft der Welt der Pharaonen.Die Blatter Leperes befinden sich heute in der Graphischen Sammlung des Wallraf und bilden den Kern der Sonderausstellung. Ein Schatz, der fast 200 Jahre im Verborgenen ruhte und jetzt erstmals offentlich ausgebreitet wird. Erganzt wird ihre Prasentation durch eine moderne historische Dokumentation, Fundstucke aus dem alten Agypten und Exponate aus der Zeit Napoleons. Die beiden Welten des Ostens und des Westens treffen sich in Koln vom 2. Oktober 2009 bis zum 10. Januar 2010.
