Neiko is the modern day Messiah, despite being female, black and otherwise entirely mortal; the antithesis of what people expect Him to be. Her inability to perform miracles leaves her feeling insecure and struggling to get noticed. The contemporary city setting is the backdrop to university life. George introduces Neiko to an alternative underground youth culture where she discovers that she is susceptible to temptation and begins to explore her darker side. Neiko suffers from conflicted morality but knows that despite all that is against her she must learn to believe in herself. She needs to encourage people to help themselves rather than wait for a saviour to make the world right. This means she has to challenge traditional religious ideals that have in the past turned prophets into scapegoats.WARNING: contains drug use, low level violence and ideas bordering on the sacrilegious. You will also find heavy use of words you probably wouldn't say in front of your grandma and a few raunchy bits.
