PETE JENKINS, a former veteran of the Great European War, who is in Marcus Garvey's African Legion doesn't know who to trust. GRADY JONES, a soldier, whose life he saved in France, is recruited by military intelligence to spy on Garvey's movement. Grady recruits the green-eyed Jamaican beauty, JULIA DUNCAN, to spy on Garvey's Security Officer. And someone unknown to either PETE or GRADY is a double agent who is leaking information to Negro militants, testified by the ferocious defense the African Blood Brotherhood wages against the Ku Klux Klan's and the Oklahoma National Guard in defense ot the Tulsa Black community. However, when JULIA and PETE fall in love, they must flee to Los Angeles to escape both Garvey's hit men and government agents. But they arrive just in time to become involved in the Klan's threat to apply the'  Tulsa-solution to LA's Negro community. Set against the background of the Roaring Twenties when lawlessness, government wrongdoing and the Ku Klux Klan rule the land, Blood and Brotherhood dramatizes the epic struggle of the New Negro to win his freedom. It tells the story of military's obsession with the 200,000 Negroes returning from the Great European War and the government's belief that Negroes trained in combat represented a threat to white America ___ a threat that had to be eliminated permanently. Blood and Brotherhood is a rare novel you'd like to reread, "because like with any classic, you can always go back and salivate on that perfect blend of characters, symbolic nuances and delectable intrigue." Arelya Mitchell, publisher of The Mid-South Tribune
