This dissertation analyzes the reasons for failure in bilateral free trade agreement negotiations and, in doing so, indirectly conveys the necessary conditions for the successful completion of these types of accords. The book develops a heuristic and eclectic theoretical framework in which elements (new trade theory, international relations, international political economy, and negotiation theory) are combined in a cogent and balanced manner to analyze the process that brings two countries to a halt in such negotiations.
